Introduction

Surgery for an unwanted abdominal appearance has changed quite markedly in the last fifteen years. It is now appropriate to talk in terms of modifying independently the effects of redundant skin, excess fat deposition, and muscle weakness.

In practice many of these are undertaken at the same time and can be influenced by the presence of scars and the overall appearance and shape of the body.

A detailed consultation allows one to understand what components can be changed and how that will affect the overall appearance and so tailor and design individual abdominal procedures to the specific needs of each patient.
